Old School by Tobias Wolff is a book to keep on your shelf. Quiet yet so powerful. If I had to translate into movie terms, which I’m sure the author would hate, I would say somewhere between Dead Poet’s Society and Wonder Boys. Two of my fav films. The book lives in a boys school filled with wannabe writers where young boys do what young boys do. Competitions, visiting legends and the breakdowns that happen when the mind goes astray. The characters are people you know. Well, you know versions of these people or those who share the traits. And the final third of the book takes a twist I found utterly intriguing. I loved this book. Get it, read it.
