Eggnog is the most beautiful thing in the entire world. Even seeing a jug of nog sends me into orgasmic bliss. I have friends and family who deny loving this liquid, but I convert them all by offering small samples of what enormous amounts of cream, sugar, egg, nutmeg, and milk can produce. Eggnog is agnostic. It transcends. And for four-fifths of the year, it is impossible to find, making it even more exquisite. But don’t let me get sidetracked here. There are things to discuss. Workshops, bags, recent shoots, a day of marketing, and more. Just as I was enjoying life as a non-filmmaker, my mission was updated and I found myself being sucked back in at least for now, and at least for work. What I will produce won’t see life here on this channel, or on my Shifter site. Those are still digital backwaters frequently only by the desperate or brave.

I mean, I would probably like eggnog, too…however, being lactose intolerant, my stomach would say otherwise. (Sometimes I don’t care, though, instant regret). Another book to add to the tbr list. Notebook wise, I changed it up and went to a 6 ring binder(I’m a leather snob, too btw). Also use a delfonics medium pouch for carrying pens, glue, and my portable photo printer. Mask is a no brainer, Flu A is running rampant around my area as well as walking pneumonia in the kiddos. Certain pneumonia that doesn’t respond to normal antibiotics, too. Some people are dense, though and don’t care about others being sick. My son recently had hand foot and mouth and of course I caught it. We didn’t go out, common sense. People send their kids to school sick and it drives me bonkers.

Totally worth whatever penalty comes with the nog. Trust me. Just block off six or eight hours and you will be fine. It’s like eating a THC cookie. You just NEVER KNOW. Hand, foot and mouth? That sounds just about terrible…… And yes, I was in Trader’s the other day and THREE people walked by coughing without covering their mouth. We did we learn from C19? Nothing.
So. Journals. Maybe a stupid question. I end up with overlapping journals. Just now there is the notebook where I keep track of what I’m doing during darkroom printing. Except that when I was taking the course at SAIT I used a different book, a smaller one that was easy to carry. Some camera notes went in there as well. But long exposure camera notes go on the phone, it being reasonably convenient to do that while waiting for the timer to count down. Then there’s notes related to the novel that live in different parts of the Scrivener software I use to write with. Then there’s yet another book with general notes about walks or trips with a camera. Then there’s the Apple notes app where the first drafts of emails, some blogs, some reminders, and some lists lives. Except being daft, there’s some of that in the reminders app. And the calendar app. Then when I want to refer back to something, I have to find the right thing and start looking. On an app there’s usually a search, and in a book, if I can find the right one, page backwards. At least I date what I write. Looking to make a new start in the new year, trying to pull all this together. Thinking about images from seeing the scene, to capturing in camera, to developing the film, to printing it on paper. Wanting to be at least somewhat organized so I’m not chasing my tail trying to find what I know I wrote down rather than figure it out again.
Do you ever go back through your journals looking for a specific thing, perhaps a to do list, or what you thought of a person, place, or thing? Any difficulties in finding it? Do you have an indexing system? Or do you just remember that if it’s this topic, written about that date, it has to be in this book, and voila!

I go back all the time. The cover and date is key. Reminds me what’s inside. I do have multiple books but that’s okay too. It’s always going to be messy. I love the iPad, but it’s got no soul.
Dan, you’ve got to get the audible version of Sonny Boy, AlPacinos’s biography. But you’ve got to listen to it, because Al reads it and it’s the best biography I’ve ever heard and the way he tells it is such an amazing experiencem

2. You described the frustration I share. Video recordings will always disrupt your still work. It is a sacrifice – especially if you struggle to make time for personal still work.

I hunted down my aunt’s homemade egg nog recipe, which is so decadent and wonderful, but it contains raw eggs. We can get away with that here in Canada, and I think in Britain, but I would worry about salmonella in the US, so am not sharing it here. It contains a quart of brandy, and also some rum.
I asked my small local public library to purchase The Road to Seeing several years ago, after they foolishly said they welcomed suggestions. Every 6 months or so, I sign it out and re-read it. Wonderful book! I also saw a TV program about Dan Winters fairly recently, which I enjoyed. It was from the NatGeo series “Photographer”.

My couple years old Black Diamond headlamp has that feature, where you can press it long to lock it so it won‘t accidentally go on and discharge. Maybe yours has it too.
Also they usually go quite well on rechargeable AAAs like eneloops etc. with a little tradeoff in output.
