You asked for it. We delivered. The beloved swatch kits are back. Different from the last offering, but better in some ways. Remember something, a swatch kit is a starting point. It’s not meant to save you or give you perfect decision-making. It’s just a starting point. Why? Because it’s not YOUR work on these pages. My advice is to find a paper or two you like, and then do what you should always do. Make small, inexpensive test books with your imagery, a range of typefaces, and whatever else you want to experiment with. Note, test books aren’t just good for the current book; they are good for all books.

As you will see, there are a lot of choices. This is how I describe Blurb. “The good news is you have a lot of choices.” “The bad news is you have a lot of choices.” Sometimes this alone stops people from making something. Crazy as that sounds. By the way, when you flip over the sheets, the same image is on the back in black and white. FYI

Choosing paper is subjective. I wish I could tell you what to use, but the paper choice depends on the desired look. I don’t know yours. Simple as that. I am, however, willing to give my advice if you so choose. I do have my favorite papers, and I do shoot a wide range of subject matter, which continues to grow, by the way, look at my Patagonia work. Yikes. What’s happening to me? Did we just become best friends? Do you want to go to the garage and do karate?

Great idea, will be very useful for my Blurb book projects! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for when it becomes available for international shipping to Australia.

Yes, Oz presents a challenge. Love the place.
I don’t see it available for order on the Blurb website?

My swatch kit arrived yesterday. I haven’t had time to fondle it yet. I did a slide show on New Brunswick and Newfoundland to the seniors group in our community association. I brought along all the books, and they loved going through them. Several people noticed, and commented on the paper, which was a bit of a surprise to me. One person wants to work with me to get their photos into a book.

There you go. There is a business there.
My swatch kit arrived, and I have fondled it 🙂
There is a blue live link in the first line of this newsletter/blog above (swatch kits, written in blue italic)
Mine was a UPS>Canada Post delivery. I’m thinking the reason it is so expensive to ship to Australia is that the international part of the delivery is via UPS. Mine went from Tukwila, Washington to Calgary, Alberta via UPS, and then to me via Canada Post in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
Next up will be a couple of sample books.
thanks Lisa….I hadn’t had coffee yet but I did get mine ordered. It should come in very handy

That’s spy stuff right there. I’m still pushing for US invasion of Canada, just to simplify shipping.
