Creative: Streets to Print: Magazines and Journals

I am returning to New York for "Streets to Print: Magazines and Journals," a lecture at the B&H Event Space.

Hello, my friends. Coming to you from the other side of the world. Just left Albania, which has sadly turned a bit violent. Endemic corruption will do this to people, so let’s hope the leadership goes on their merry way and the youth can start over. Now sitting in the neighborhood overlooking the sea. The week after next, I’ll be returning to New York, where I’m scheduled to speak at the B&H Event Space. See above and below. I’m a notebook and magazine lover. Seeing your work on the pages of a magazine never gets old. Get ready for “Streets to Print: Magazines and Journals.”

And the notebook, well, that’s like oxygen.

Having just come from teaching a workshop, seeing notebooks being used as the structure from which to make a book, I can say with authority, there IS something to this method. The student work was SO good. If you want a little sneak peek, I’ll share with you one spread from my Albania journal and one page layout from the 72-page book I crafted in the background. I’ll print a copy after I return home.

If this sounds interesting, come see me in New York. Fujifilm is supporting me at this event. They were kind enough to loan me a camera for this trip. The GFX100RF, which I used exclusively during my time in Albania. When this camera came out, I heard dork after dork talking smack online, which always baffles me when I know the people doing the talking were never in the market for a camera like this. I kept thinking, “Hmm, 100+ megapixels in a smallish camera with a fixed lens seems like something that would be fun to try.” I can say now, the files are insane, and the aspect ratio dial is genius. I shot 5:4 the entire time, and only found one situation where the camera was difficult to use. Everything else….easy. Want to know my thoughts? Come see me.
