I decided to attempt this film minutes before the festival began. Why not shoot handheld black-and-white motion? What could go wrong? I know my limits, but I’m in Spain, so it’s college rules. My only goal was to show what makes a festival a festival. Motion is a cruel mistress. You shoot what you believe to be “lots of footage,” but as soon as the edit starts, you realize how little you actually have. Forget about sound, forget about dynamic range, highlight detail, etc. When I watch this film, I see how tired I am. I hear that I really don’t have much to say, and that I’m worn down enough not to have many of my own thoughts. The festival gave me more than I could give to it. That’s due to Raw Society and what they created, an event unlike anything else happening in the photography world. Pulling off an event like this is a horrendously stressful, complicated thing, and they did it with grace and style.

I need it.
I enjoyed that! You are too hard on yourself. The film was a real slice-of-life at the festival. Interesting to see all the people sharing catalogue/zine type books back and forth. What a great festival. I have a 40% Blurb discount burning a hole in my email. For anyone that hasn’t yet become a Blurb member, there seems to be a plethora of regular discounts that arrive in my inbox.

Yes, lots of good discounts. Now, shipping price is another matter, but we are working on it.
I thought it was quite good, including the Dan bits-quiet moments of reflection in the chaos ……

People seem to like those bits, but they make me want to hide.
Spreading yourself thin Mr Milnor. I know the feeling when you travel for work for a little to long. Get out on your bike and recharge your batteries in sunshine/rain/snow or whichever mix you have at the given time in NM. Thanks for field reports, as a very unphotographic creature (for some time now), I appreciate.
Too busy, maybe. Too lazy? Hardly. Please don’t discount all you by being self-effacing. I see all you do and I kick myself for not doing more. But I’m trying!

You seem to be doing a lot. That’s my take from a distance.
I really like this video. You sound… normal. It seemed less like a tourube video and more like a wee chat. I really like that.
Or maybe we’re all just so tired these days that this is our new normal, and its not normal at all 😄

I like chatting. And I’m not selling you on anything. At least not yet….
