Creative: Raw Fest 2026

I decided to attempt this film minutes before the festival began. Why not shoot handheld black-and-white motion? What could go wrong? I know my limits, but I’m in Spain, so it’s college rules. My only goal was to show what makes a festival a festival. Motion is a cruel mistress. You shoot what you believe to be “lots of footage,” but as soon as the edit starts, you realize how little you actually have. Forget about sound, forget about dynamic range, highlight detail, etc. When I watch this film, I see how tired I am. I hear that I really don’t have much to say, and that I’m worn down enough not to have many of my own thoughts. The festival gave me more than I could give to it. That’s due to Raw Society and what they created, an event unlike anything else happening in the photography world. Pulling off an event like this is a horrendously stressful, complicated thing, and they did it with grace and style.
