I don’t often post about my Blurb happenings on this site, but Blurb Command has decided to run a campaign with little old me. “Meet with Milnor,” campaign offers the opportunity to win a portfolio review with me. I know, I know, you’re not sure you are ready to face me in a Zoom room. I get it, I’d be nervous too, but let me quell your fears. I’ve never been a believer in the destructive review. I’ve seen far too many ego-driven photographers take pleasure in destroying people. In fact, I’ve seen numerous famous photographers do this. Just so you know, they do it because they are very unhappy, insecure people.
Me on the other hand, heck, I’m rolling in happiness because I’m married to such an incredible woman. (Who reads this site.) Far be it from me to ever pander to anything or anyone, but now that we have that established let me officially quell you fears. I’ve been both reviewer and reviewed, many times in fact. I know what I’m doing and I focus on the build not the break down. Getting your work reviewed by someone with a few laps under their belt is essential to get better as a photographer. There is a reason why photographers have been looking at each other’s work since the inception of the practice.
My advice if this is something you are interested in.
Edit tight, keep things cohesive, start and end strong, get a second opinion before you and I meet, and have your elevator pitch ready. Nothing fancy, just who you are and why you are doing what you are doing, in thirty seconds or less, so when I ask “Why are you here?” you have something to say.
