Creative: How I Became a Kid Photographer

I wish I could unveil all the images I made as a “kid photographer.” Those images are semi-sensitive and were never intended for public consumption via YouTube. When you set the table with a Hasselblad, 80mm, and roll of TRI-X, not to mention total control over the shoot, you are setting yourself up for maximum success.

I have a box of prints in my closet, 17x22s, at least fifty of them, reflecting and encapsulating my seven years as a portrait photographer. I’m not known for blowing my own horn, but I can say with relative certainty, that these are good images. But how did I get there? How did a scarf-wearing, pseudo-hipster douche become such a GOD of portraiture? Was it a master plan? Did I get specific training? Well, tune in and find out.

Also, this film came to me via a Q&A question. I realized something. Why not break the Q&A questions into their own films? This way I can expound, extrapolate, and give them the credit they deserve without running into the hour-long film times.

  1. You can find your photos of kids somewhere in the depths of the Internet, plus those you shared yourself, on aypclub lamps or your videos. And I have to agree with your neighbor that this is not what I expected. These portraits are really different, fresh, natural, nostalgic and different from 99% of all the rest that are made during children’s/family sessions. Inspiring to do with this approach to children’s photography.
