When I explain to people that I’ve sold individual Blurb books for $1500, they wait for a punchline that never arrives. It’s true. I have sold Blurb books for this price. I’ve also sold my Blurb offerings for less, but this should make sense. Books are priced for the value the buyer places on them. I’m also a fan of limited-run books. Doing a small run creates scarcity, which creates demand. It also allows me to finish a project, sell through a small book run, and then get back into the field to take on a new project instead of spending months, years even, on selling a larger print run. If your work has value, charge for it. Charging for your work creates the sustainable model we all cherish, because if you are like me, you’ve always got your eye on what comes next.
