Create: End-of-Year Bookmaking Tips

Permalink 13 Comments

My friends, learn from your old pal Danno and don’t make the same mistakes I do. Think about this…end of year. An end of a year unlike any we have seen perhaps ever. Major systems are stressed, faltering, and near collapse. So, this doesn’t mean we run and hide, this means we take precautions and get out in front instead of lagging behind. I have some tips for you when it comes to end-of-year bookmaking. Whether you identify as a pro or as a consumer/prosumer it doesn’t really matter. There are things to do and things to avoid. This bookmaking thing should be fun but it should also provide you with power and direction.

  1. As always, great advice sir.
I make books all year of the significant events in our lives such as vacations, birthdays, and holidays etc. These are edited and sequenced and I spend a lot of time on them. Then I have some images that do not really fit any category, such as the dog asleep on my wife’s head. They are photos of just random goofy stuff we want to remember from our everyday lives. I put them into a year end book called outtakes. Seems to work. Thoughts?

      Paul,
Works for me. You could also fake and fabricate outlandish stories to go with the images.

  2. I run but don’t get it either. I do it because of time restraints, not because I prefer it to cycling. Yep, the iPad. I have a 2017 iPad Pro and use it religiously every day. If I could get rid of my computer and only live with an iPad I would.

I need to make more books.

      Sean,
A lot of folks want to live with iPad only. The work around to make this work are still too much for me.

    2. I have been doing stuff just on my ipad pro for a while. I do a zine with it, not as sophisticated as maybe could be done with a laptop and design software, but it works for me.

  3. I have that same book problem. Since coming back to Singapore, I’ve done nothing but buy books randomly, because Amazon exists here now and I only found out last year. 100% agree it’s a great problem to have!

      C,
One of the best. I just got seven books from the library. Across a wide and puzzling range. And I can return them when I’m done. Ahhh, the library. Finally open after 1.5 years close.
