Okay, for those of you who are new to my site this is a very specific event and a specific group I want to bring your attention to. I’ve spent far too much time discussing the differences between the online photography world and the actual photography industry. Once again, I want to stress one group is not better than the other only different, perhaps wildly different, but that’s okay too.

If you don’t know about Catchlight then allow me to make an introduction. Here is their official mission statement. “At CatchLight, we believe in the power of visual storytelling to foster a more nuanced and empathetic understanding of the world. We serve as a transformational force, urgently bringing resources and organizations together to support leaders in a thriving visual ecosystem. Our goal is to discover, develop and amplify visual storytellers.”
Catchlight also has a fellows program, of which I’m a huge fan. Not just with Catchlight but with fellows programs in general. A program like this can not only make change for someone bent on being a storyteller but it can also help create a foundation of resources and connections that can continue for an entire career.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be attending what looks to be a very cool, very inspiring retreat with the Catchlight group. I’m on the hook to make a presentation about Blurb which will be mostly case studies about people who are already using the Blurb platform in smart and strategic ways. I’ve found when it comes to Blurb and high-end creatives, the best thing I can do is just say “Here, look at what these people are already doing.” In the last ten years, I’ve done literally hundreds of presentations around the world in regard to Blurb. Yesterday alone I spent three hours on the phone, yes the telephone, walking three high-level folks through the platform and how I would use it if I were wearing their creative shoes.

Catchlight also has an EDU program, which I love to see. I think back to my schooling and what it would have been like to be introduced to this world while I was still being formed as a photographer.
For those of you in the Bay Area there is a print sale and launch event I’ll be attending on Friday, November 1st. (Yikes, is it almost November already?) The images in this post are from the last Catchlight event I attended which was fantastic and made me commit to this upcoming event the second I was given the chance. If you are looking for top-level creatives and a window into the world of professional storytellers than you should bookmark Catchlight, or better yet, get to one of their events.
