Things are a bubbling here in good old Merica. Like the intestines after a piece of slightly undercooked chicken. Corruption, greed, hate, ignorance, and lies seem to rule the day. In fact, they are now the norm, and from the very top down. The population has been fully radicalized, taught to hate the other more than to love their own. A sketchy public education system, lack of curiosity, screen-induced laziness, and the single most destructive act to hit our world, Facebook, is all it took. And from what I can tell, we continue down this path with reckless abandon. Everyone seems to have an excuse for their lunacy. People who are mostly normal in all other aspects of their lives will readily eat propaganda and lies if it fortifies their own beliefs, even when they know those beliefs aren’t really theirs and hold no semblance of truth.
I’ve said this since 2015. If we do this, go down this path, we deserve what’s coming.
Ever notice the people behind the data centers never live where they intend to build? Hmm, peculiar. I don’t use AI. Have never been to an AI site, and have no intention. Sure, you could try to find holes in this statement, as some of you have already done over the past few years, but you won’t find the answer you are looking for. I bring this up for one very important reason. When I tell people this, because of the hate-filled reactionary environment we live in, they immediately assume I’m anti-AI. Just as when I point out the massive corruption, lies, double-dealing, and hate of the current administration, which is beyond anything I’ve seen in my lifetime, they immediately assume I’m in love with the other half. Wrong. And when I say, “I don’t adhere to either side,” I’m met with, you guessed it, hate and accusation. I’m told I MUST pick a side. Wrong. I’m met with “Well, the other side is just as bad.” This is a world-class copout uttered as a last defense by people who KNOW they are hiding the truth. These are goalpost movers, working like cult followers to excuse anything their master pushes forth. (I kid you not, someone JUST texted me asking for AI advice.)
We fought al-Qaeda(ISIS) for twenty-five years. A radical ideology, and at the same time, we radicalized our own country. Gulf War I was the first time I remember hearing a newspaper publisher say, “We are fully behind this war.” That was all it took. The media realized, “Hey, if we preach to one side, our choir, we can make more money.” Let’s report what our audience wants to hear. People became siloed. Boom. Done. Over. Red vs blue, in a blizzard of stupidity. The Post-Truth World beckons for human fodder. What do we know now? What do the people behind that war say? “We made a mistake.” “We should not have done that.” “We had bad intel, and we went anyway.” But even when the information comes from those responsible, their “side” now moves the goalposts. Just ignore that information and hold the line, no matter what. Blame the other side.
Our president said he doesn’t care about America’s financial situation. Yesterday, he said he doesn’t care about housing costs or helping the situation. Doesn’t care. He promised a new healthcare model ELEVEN YEARS AGO. Doesn’t care. Never had a new model, never needed one, just needed the dummies to vote. More concerned about finding a way to cancel or influence the next election. They only know two outcomes: either they win the election, or the other side must have cheated. And the goalpost movers line up to bootlick. 2020 wasn’t stolen, and January 6th wasn’t a normal tour day. I find this so entirely fascinating. Otherwise, normal people lose any trace of reality, truth, or what they can see with their own eyes. What must it feel like to live under that burden? No evidence, no proof about the election being stolen. And Jan 6th, well, don’t watch the footage. That will make it all better.
The data centers are an interesting wrinkle. If you are looking for what potentially pushes us over the brink, this might be a good place to start. The AI race, in general, is led by the worst human beings ever invented. Pathological liars, sociopaths, greedheads. They can’t get through a presser without multiple lies, but they are intelligent enough to know we are vulnerable. Keep us agitated, hating the other side, and well, heck, you can get away with just about anything. Let’s go to dumb, rural people with an already existing lack of natural resources, pay off the right people, cancel a public vote, and just ram this thing through. Most likely, it will work. Too much money being made behind the scenes. But what happens when future predictions even come remotely close to coming true?
Forty percent unemployment? An admin who already said, “Don’t care.” No plan. You think people are just going to sit around while the billionaires play with each other? Where are people going to go? What are they going to do? Man, personally, I see major storm clouds building on the horizon. Thiel fled to Argentina. Zuckerberg, Altman, and Hoffman talk about building bunkers, hoarding antibiotics, and fleeing to remote countries. They have already said, indirectly, that they do not want us to survive. They want a tech-bro utopia. Man, I see that as pure Hell. Imagine having to hang out with those twats. Zuckerberg alone is one of the most horrible, awkward people I’ve ever seen. You know, when all your neighbors hate you, well, it speaks volumes. I know, the Metaverse will save us. Ignore the fire outside your window, just put that monitor on your head and have a few more Mountain Dew Code Reds. (This soda scares the shit out of me.)
We’ve reached a level of stupidity that is nearly impossible to imagine. It turns out, the Post Truth World is impossible to put back in the bottle, especially when the public has clearly expressed they don’t want to. I know so many people whose lives seem to be almost entirely driven by pushing conspiracies and hate. They go to work, send their kids to school, do normal things, but running in the background are the snide comments, the hidden hate, racism, antisemitism, ignorance, and accusations. I always wonder what they could accomplish if not for this disease.
I have always felt that the single most important thing a leader can provide is hope. (Hope is now seen as a socialist weakness by the crazies.) Give a human hope, and they become limitless. But that doesn’t work now. Hope might take a real plan, a real policy, but there isn’t enough money in that. Too much work. We deserve what’s happening. Food prices, gas prices, inflation, lack of healthcare, government coverups, new foreign wars, distorted religious ideology, dwindling resources, denial, and greed. I have no solution. Wish I did. I see a few who are attempting to do the right thing, but they will get destroyed by the machine that is now eating its own. Inter-party fighting, closed-door compromises, dark-money payoffs, and grift of epic proportions. Which part do you fix first? We are part of a massive, interconnected system of systems, but which one needs our attention the most? Again, I don’t know. But what I do know is I still can see the truth, which means I can also see and hear the lies that are turning normal people into fodder.
PS: For those of you wanting to see how unhinged the people behind these data centers are, look no further than Keven O’Leary. Mr. Leary had to fully retract his made-up claims, as did Fox News. “He has no evidence (the people he smeared) are funded by China or the Chinese Communist Party.” Ooops. Two of the three board members who cut regulations and allowed the center to go through have now been voted out of office. Same for the Utah Senate President. This entire thing stinks. Of course, Leary doesn’t live there. When it goes sideways, he will be nowhere to be found.
PSS: Over the past week, after his 900-page financial disclosure, you have been hearing major rumblings about the level of grift happening with the administration. You hear things like, “He’s not even trying to hide it.” Megan Kelly, Sean Ryan, and many others have said, “This is beyond bad.” The bootlickers move the goalposts and scream, “Hunter Biden laptop.” I want to remind people, he doesn’t have to hide it. He has total immunity thanks to a compromised Supreme Court. Donny loaded up that court with people who will do his billing, no matter what. The FBI admits it did not do due diligence before the confirmation hearings, and we know several of the justices were less than truthful. The ethics scandals surrounding the court are now so numerous that it’s easy to lose count. We are hosed people. I can’t see any way the midterm elections will happen, and if they do, there is only one acceptable outcome.

When the historians leave your country, you know things are not going well. Americans are wondering why Canadians have stopped coming. I think they do not understand we are a multi-racial country. It is not only about the tariffs, but about the dangers of ICE to visitors to the US, as well as to your citizens. Canada also has a shameful history of “camps”, but maybe we have a better public education system, so these things are not forgotten? Time will tell whether we are brought down by the same lies and propaganda that are now being pushed across the border.

It’s ugly. There is a small percentage who are beginning to realize just how bad they have been conned, but there are far more digging in and moving the goalposts to cover whatever he and his band of sociopaths want to do. They just keep blaming old administrations.
I almost don’t know where to start. America has never really been the country it claims to be, though it mostly managed to paper over the seamy underbelly. Enough of the goodies filtered down to keep almost everybody happy. Except now the rich want it all. All of it. Anybody expressing surprise at what Trump and the Republicans have been doing this term, haven’t been paying attention for decades.
The American empire has been unravelling for a while, if you have the eyes to see. You could point to Vietnam, the Kennedy assassinations, Watergate, Citizens United, or the Jan 6 2020 insurrection as the beginning of the end, and I’m sure historians will argue about it, like they argue about when the Roman Empire ended, or the British Empire (I think WW I is the line), the Russian Empire (Feb 1989 when it pulled out of Afghanistan with it’s tail between it’s legs, followed quickly by the Berlin wall falling). I’ll probably live long enough to see historians argue about the end of the American Empire, and my money is on the Trump administration. I don’t think America survives, at least not as a democratic country. After all, it was still called Rome, as it transitioned from republic to empire.
Maybe I’m underestimating the spirit of Americans willing to fight back against the encroaching fascism, but I think America is over. My advice to anyone who isn’t rich (and by rich I mean multi-multi-millionaire), white, and male, is the same advice that German Jews would get in the 1930’s. Get out while you can. Or be prepared to sacrifice everything in the struggle. Oh sure, you might think you can ride the gravy train for a while, but the derailment is in progress.
I haven’t been to America for 30 years, not even to transit on the way to somewhere else. It’s simply not a safe country, what with insane gun laws allowing every aggrieved guy (and it’s almost always a white guy) shooting at random strangers to make himself feel better, or ICE intimidating and deporting anyone in sight regardless of their citizenship, or the CBP detaining Canadian citizens and sending one of them that we know of overseas to be tortured.

We live in Pueblo, Colorado and there is a massive fire near us. One of the iconic spots is Bishops Castle and someone posted the other day an AI photo, promoting it burned down.
People immediately called this person out for false news and begged them to remove it as it was spreading false info.
The person commented that they appreciate someone calling them out but they make money off FB posts and because it had so much interaction they would leave it.

No plans to at the moment. I want to stay and make it better. If we survived the next few years, we have a chance to regain our composure. I don’t see any way they allow these next elections, however. If not, it’s the beginning of what we knew and the start of something far worse.
When I was first worried about the US was in 2001, when I heard about a new department. I heard the word “Homeland” and thought “WTF?” That sounded like rows of goose-stepping soldiers, and people being mowed down by tanks.
I remember being freaked out by soldiers carrying big guns in the Frankfurt airport in 1977. Sights like that were not part of my world.

@lisa Ai is on automatically unless you type -ai. Also, if you use Gmail, go into settings/all settings and turn off “smart features” otherwise it is on by default and giving Google permission to scan/use all your email and attachments to train its Ai language models.

I read Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash back when it dropped in 1992. It’s incredibly funny and well-written, but over the years, I’ve watched the US creep closer and closer to that dystopian reality… I won’t say more to avoid spoilers, but if you’re hooked from page one, this book is definitely for you.
