This was a beautiful book. Certain writers are so smooth you can hardly believe the prose. This was my first Ann Patchett book but won’t be the last. State of Wonder follows a doctor into the depths of the Brazilian jungle as she searches for a fellow doctor and remote lab where a colleague recently died. The characters are flushed out, complex and the story is one that makes you wonder what if? Culture clash, science and the idea you must surrender to the jungle or it will consume you. Patchett also is co-owner of a bookstore, so go buy her books!
