Read: Powering the Dream

I love the idea of renewable energy and green technology. I think about it all the time. And I don’t even really know that much about it. I love solar, wind, waves, etc.I ride my bike almost everywhere, to offset the fact I drive a 4×4 that gets 18-22mpg, turning myself into the renewable energy source. Eat, ride, eat ride. So when I saw Alexis Madrigal’s “Powering the Dream,” I knew it was for me.

This is a heartbreaking book in some ways but ultimately ends up with a glimmer of hope. You see, many of the things we dream about today we actually had going far back into our energy history. How about electric cabs in Manhattan in the 1890’s? Geothermal heating in 1910? Yep. You guessed it.

What the book also covers is how difficult it’s been, and how difficult it will be, for us to provide renewable energy to the masses. But, what other choice do we have?

If you are geek for energy then get it, read it.

I’m in the market, maybe, for a solar generator. Does anyone have any recommendations?
