I am officially in love. Who knew? The Blurb Wire-O Notebook. WTF? You mean I can get a journal with my own imagery, and a wire-o bind for $15? Hmm, okay. You know my lust for all things notebook. Writing in my journal is one of the most important things I do, and one of the most enjoyable. I’ve been writing in a notebook daily for thirty-two years. Yep. How you like them apples? I use a wide range of notebooks, and ultimately, whatever works for you is what works. Doesn’t matter what I do.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would like Wire-O.
I’ve always had books like this on my desk. I use them for daily notes or notes I take while on the phone. I love how they are perfectly flat, and typically, they are tough as nails. As you can see, I’ve yet to start writing in this book. There is a reason for that. Yesterday, on a Blurb internal channel, I commented on how much I like these new books, but I wasn’t sure how they would handle a fountain pen. Now I’ve been tasked with making a film about this very thing. (Damnit, Dan, keep quiet.)

I would guess that Sharpie and fountain will come with some bleed-through, but everything else should be fine, including the gel pens I love so much. Again, need to test. I also like how I can choose from grid, spot grid, lined, blank, etc. I’m a spot grid sucker, with full grid or blank coming in second. Again, to each his/her own. It’s not easy to innovate in today’s world. You might think it would be, considering how much chatter revolves around tech, but when you have a global company, producing anything new is incredibly expensive and complicated. Sometimes, people will say things like, “Why doesn’t Blurb do ‘X,’ it’s just a single line of code.” I laugh, quietly to myself. If only this were true. So, this new format and matte covers are a welcome addition.

The problem with wire is it’s prone to unwire and no longer lies flat or closes completely; kinked and unspiralled it makes me most tired, so I’m off with a finder for a book with a binder….

This is a double wire-o that’s been in a bag with with other books for the last three weeks. I just pulled it out and had a look. Perfect. You would have to really do something dramatic to crush this bind. Not saying it’s not possible, but outside of standing on it, running over it in a monster truck or hook kicking it repeatedly, I think it will last.
It would be nice to offer a horizontal format as well.

Just turn it sideways and design it that way. Half of my journal pages are written horizontally, not vertical, so I’m in the same camp.
Hi, Daniel! Haven’t been on here in a bit. Ive got lots of reading to do on your blog, it looks like. Its been a rough few months. My dad had stage 1 lung cancer(and has had pneumonia twice since September). Lots of stress and depression…and of course uninspired for months.
Anyways enough sad stuff. I’m an absolute sucker for new notebooks. The spiral bound seems pretty sturdy. I may have to try it out.

Oh crap. So sorry to hear. Tina, we lost three friends in one week, a few weeks ago. It seems like it’s an epidemic, but I think it’s just the age we are. Best of luck with everything. And a new notebook is a like a new day with a fire red sun on the horizon line.
