Back again, this time with a “C++” rated grand showcase of my wit and unrelenting talent. We hit the standard hero the week, add a new category of “Scum of the Week,” and then transcend decency with twelve new points covering politics, cameras, chess, Blurb, AG23, computers, road trips, and overdevelopment in the American West. Out is boredom. In is life-changing data.

  1. Great way to spend a pandemic Thanksgiving. Small little meal and FWIW. I actually took some notes this time. I’m also out $60 because I got intrigued by that Leaf mask. I’m sure it works, but I just wanted to look like some sci fi starship fighter pilot.

I noticed those Blurb updates – exciting stuff. My first attempt at a journal should get here Friday. I really like Blurb’s stuff, only one complaint. The website is a convoluted overloaded mess. I hope they’ll listen to the UX front end team and instill some minimalism. Everyone’s a critic, I know.

I think a lot of us snowflakes are big fans of people who serve in the military. I served…I was terrible at it. I wasn’t tipping the scales in our favor. It’s the USG that has let us all down, including the vets. We keep letting jackass politicians and neocons (Hi Bill Kristol!) send our troops to Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Every time afterward we stop and think, gee, we probably should have looked at that idea a bit more critically, shouldn’t we? Oh look, another military adventure! Hooray.

When I left the USG, I couldn’t name a single person who had a coherent rational plan for what we were doing in Syria, Iraq, or Afghanistan. Instead you get HR McMaster coming on TV and saying, yes, we all want the war in Afghanistan to end. But now’s not the right time. Funny thing with these guys – it’s never the right time. Every American should have to read the Washington Post’s Afghanistan Papers. In a brilliant series of journalism the WAPO lays bare 20 years of lies. Americans don’t give a shit. Out of sight out of mind.

The neocons know they’ll always be able to find 18-25 year olds they can send overseas.

I feel like I need to add something here. I’m hoping to bounce – hello Canada, Scandinavia, and Germany! I’ve mentioned Denmark as an option on my blog several times, and Denmark, if you’re listening, I just don’t want you to confuse my comments here as somehow condoning Dan’s disrespectful comments. Just listen to the man – belts and pants off to go check the mail. He’s not to be taken seriously. Still hoping to see that email hiring me for long-term flailing amateurish documentary work in Denmark – here for it.

      Scott,
Look, Denmark is mostly huge wheels of free hash and killer, zombie minks who will take you down with mutated versions of C19. However, on the flip side, you can find a club of underground music with dreadlocked women spinning vinyl 365 days a year. And you don’t need a car. But you will need a coat. I’m sort of an expert on Denmark even though I’ve never been. Their language if fake but most people speak English and watch American football. War is good business. I’m fifty-one and we have never had a point in my life when the country was not at war. Sure, some points were slower than others but never peace. And there never will be. YOu served. That is what matters in my mind. Not only did I never serve I never even considered it. And I should have.

  2. Another superb podcast! AG23 sounds really exciting. I want to submit my Vignettes of Japan project one day. The writing for it is coming along and I’m making prints for it every night.

Milnor Vs Trump in the octagon, mortal combat style! I would love to see you pull Trumps spine out of his body… “Finish him!” Haha.

      Kurt,
I would take my time and break him down with leg kicks. Then pepper him with exotic wide range head kicks, just to show off, then would finish him on the ground in some painful, twisting submission. Then backflip in the ring. And promote Monster Energy Drink.

  3. I suspect that I fall outside your target audience for these, Daniel. The military, political stuff, cyber hacking, no thank you. I’m glad for you that others enjoy them.

As I sit here in my elastic waist loungewear, Happy Thanksgiving!

      Chuck,
Oh ya. If I talked photography and books all the time I’d lose my mind. So much more out there. Thankfully, at least three people agree with me.

  4. Enjoyed listening to this on my morning walk. I’ve never understood why we only have two political parties in this country. My Dad used to say “It’s like the choice between airline food and hospital food!”.

      Paul,
Oh, I’m stealing that. One of the big reasons, historically, is that the three party system did not work for TV networks. Believe it or not.

  5. Dan, welcome to the dongle hell of macbooks. You’ll hate it. I have so many things plugged into my laptop that I don’t even dare use it as a laptop anymore. Hence why I’m seeing a PC in my very very near future.

      MC,
I have all four ports with dongles at the moment. I can’t believe this is considered a good idea. And, my wife had one that I didn’t have otherwise I would not have been able to use LR. I’ve got to get one of those mega docs. The battery isn’t very good either and this laptop has an i5 processor so I’m not sure how that will handle 4k but my fingers are crossed.

    2. Mine has an i5 too, I did some video but not 4K on it. It’ll struggle with 4k but will do it.. I think. I bought a Tsupy USB hub with the SD card slot on the front and glued that under my desk to keep things tidy, my monitor and drawing tablet are hooked on there as well. Works ok. But man what a bad decision those 4 usb-c slots, even if everything was magically cabled with usb-c in 2020 … 4 wouldn’t be enough. Power, monitor, external drive, sd-card reader … nothing else would fit.

  6. 1. Pants? LOL. I work from home. Imagine an apartment that is pitch dark, lit by the light of my 11 year old 27 inch iMac. I work in my skivvies. I only wear pants when I leave home. Other than that I haven’t worn pants since March 😉
    2. Just found an external travel monitor you hook up to your computer via usb…perfect for laptops.
    3. I predict the GOP will split into two pieces…the GOP and the Trumpists…and like all third party parties it’ll just split the GOP voting block….
    4. Future of the military is special forces and/or cyber. Wars of the future will be fought behind keyboards. The Letters of Marque idea was floated a while ago…
    5. The Blurb stuff sounds awesome!
    6. One thing a lot of folks will be surprised by is how fast Trump goes away once he loses his bully pulpit. His cyclone of bullshit is unsustainable over the long haul.

      Jim,
A friend was breaking down the lawsuits about to hit Donny and how much of his life will be spent in rooms with lawyers. Can’t wait. What travel monitor? I agree and SOF and cyber. Makes sense.

Really? What do you do? Email me if you don’t want to put it here. I’m fascinated by the entire thing.

      Jim,
Monitor looks great. I will probably get a 4k because I KNOW at some point soon someone is going to ask.

  7. Ahhh I had NO idea you had a podcast!! Just subscribed and will go take a listen! CAme to look for the journal we just spoke about!! Cool Beans, can’t wait to have this on my line up!

      Suzanne,
Oh ya. At least eight people love it. Easy and fun for me to do. Topics are varied.
